Dubai’s Metro service is set for significant expansion following the approval of a development plan by the emirate’s Executive Council. The plan aims to increase the number of metro stations from the current 64 stations over 84 square kilometers to 96 stations over 140 square kilometers by 2030, and further to 140 stations over 228 square kilometers by 2040.
This expansion aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.Key objectives of the expansion include increasing public transport usage to 45%, reducing carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita, enhancing public spaces to encourage walking, and increasing shaded areas.
These efforts are intended to develop areas around metro stations, boost economic opportunities, interconnect various modes of public transport, and improve the efficiency and convenience of sustainable transport.
